to-go gift 伴手禮

My to-go gift for my private drivers is usually the chiffon cake (i think the Taiwanese call it 綠蛋糕) from Bengawan solo, but this time round our private driver will be following us from Taipei — Taichung — Taipei for 4 days.

My question is - what other non-perishable gifts can I bring along for my driver in this case that Taiwanese may like? I was thinking of Kaya jam (咖椰酱), but seems like it’s also available in Taiwan?

Note : we do tip our drivers at the end of the trip, this is more of a meeting gift (伴手禮)。

Thank you!

Once I have tried seafood base XO sauce with a high quality noodles ready to cook.

My friend love it.

But this kind of questions cannot be have certain answer, After all, each individual have it different appetize.

However, I don't think kaya jam is a good idea.

I'm a local Taiwanese. I grew up in Taichung more than two decades , and I also had lived Taipei, New Taipei, Kinman each of those places for years. The people I knew almost nobody USE or enjoyed kaya jam.

That is not a good recommendation as a gift.

Thank you! I guess instant noodles are a popular choice based on the comments

wait wait a second.

What I mean is not the instant noodles.

Although the instant noodles, most of time are a popular choice and have a highly chance not failure, as a gift.

What I mean is some kind of product that the the noodle have the simply cooked and quickly froze. it's not like 7-Eleven instant noodles, more likes a chief cooked and dried noodles.

Sima Yi, knowing he could not defeat the enemy,

resorted to the tactic of waiting for the enemy to tire themselves out.

He hung a banner outside the Wei army's camp,

hoping that once the Shu army ran out of food and supplies,

Kong Ming would naturally withdraw.

Ease Till Enemy Exhausted 5 Lu Xun

During the Three Kingdoms period, when Wu State killed Guan Yu,

Liu Bei was furious and personally led an army of 700,000 to attack Eastern Wu

(on paper; the actual number may not have been that large).

Liu Bei's army advanced from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River,

commanding a commanding position and unstoppable momentum.

Liu Bei's army marched eastward, winning numerous battles and gaining momentum.

Liu Bei's army reached the Yiling and Xiaoling areas, penetrating deep into Wu's heartland.

This caused a nationwide upheaval in Eastern Wu!

Sun Quan was selecting generals, but he rejected the popular recommendation.

Instead, he ordered the young general Lu Xun to be

the Grand Commander-in-Chief to lead the Eastern Wu army to meet Liu Bei's forces.

Lu Xun ordered the Eastern Wu army to implement a strategic retreat, awaiting the enemy's changes.

The Eastern Wu army's retreat made it difficult for Liu Bei's army to engage in a decisive battle.

Instead, because they were deep in the heartland,

they were in a passive position, unable to fight and unwilling to retreat,

leading to fatigue in their soldiers.

After six months of stalemate,

Lu Xun saw that Liu Bei's front stretched for hundreds of miles,

making it difficult to secure both ends. Furthermore,

they had set up camp amidst the mountains and forests, a major military taboo.

Lu Xun concluded that the time was ripe

for a counterattack and ordered a full-scale counterattack.

A single fire destroyed Liu Bei's camp, stretching over seven hundred miles.

Liu Bei's army was thrown into disarray, suffering heavy casualties.

Furthermore, they had set up camp amidst the mountains and forests, a major military taboo.

Lu Xun concluded that the time was ripe

for a counterattack and ordered a full-scale counterattack.

A single fire destroyed Liu Bei's camp, stretching over seven hundred miles.

Liu Bei's army was thrown into disarray, suffering heavy casualties.

Ease Till Enemy Exhausted 4 Zhao Yun

During the Battle of Han River between Liu Bei and Cao Cao,

Zhuge Liang ordered Zhao Yun to lead his men into hiding.

He did not come out to fight.

He simply made noise at night,

which caused Cao Cao's soldiers to hear, causing them to sleep poorly and become very tired.

Thus, Cao Cao's soldiers were exhausted by the noise, while Liu Bei's soldiers were well rested and ready to tire themselves out.

Thus, Cao Cao's soldiers were exhausted by the noise,

while Liu Bei's soldiers were well rested and ready to tire themselves out.

Ease Till Enemy Exhausted 3 Huang Zhong

Liu Bei's general Huang Zhong

Huang Zhong encountered Cao Cao's generals

Xiahou Shang and Xiahou Yuan at Dingjun Mountain.

Huang Zhong initially refrained from engaging the enemy,

holding his ground, conserving his strength, and waiting for an opportunity.

He waited until Cao Cao's army was exhausted before attacking,

effectively taking advantage of their rest.

Huang Zhong smiled and said,

"This is my strategy to lure my enemy into complacency and lower their guard.

We'll see how tonight, recover our camp

which the previously captured camp, and seize their food and horses."

In the end, Huang Zhong defeated Cao Cao's army.

Liu Bei's general Huang Zhong

encountered Cao Cao's generals Xiahou Shang and Xiahou Yuan at Dingjun Mountain.

Ease Till Enemy Exhausted 2 Chen Gong

Cao Cao fought fiercely at Xia Pi City, and Lu Bu died at Baimen Tower.

This is the tactic of

"Waiting for the enemy to tire themselves out"

"Resting Me and meanwhile Exhaust my enemy "

At Xia Pi City , Lu Bu, confident of his ample food supplies and

the strategic location of the Si River, felt safe and secure.

Chen Gong suggested, "Cao Cao's army has just arrived.

We can take advantage of the fact that his camp's fences are not yet fully erected.

We can attack Cao Cao. This way, we can exploit our ease to attack the enemy's fatigue.

This kind of battle has always resulted in victory."

Lu Bu responded, "We've suffered repeated defeats.

We shouldn't attack rashly.

We should wait until he attacks us before we strike back.

Cao Cao's soldiers will simply fall into the Si River."

Because of this, he ignored Chen Gong's advice.

This ultimately led to his defeat, or at least contributed to it.

Ease Till Enemy Exhausted 1 Zhou Yafu

In 154 BC, Emperor Jing of Han, the Rebellion of the Seven Kingdoms

In 154 BC, Emperor Jing of Han implemented policies to weaken the local vassal kings.

The Liu clan vassal kings across the country, dissatisfied with their diminished power, rebelled, sparking the Rebellion of the Seven Kingdoms.

After the rebellion broke out,

Emperor Jing of Han ordered General Zhou Yafu to lead his troops into battle.

Zhou Yafu knew that the rebels, short of food, would surely seek a decisive battle.

So, he held his ground, refusing to engage the rebels head-on.

Over time, the rebels ran out of food and fodder and became exhausted.

Originally, Zhou Yafu's army was inferior to the rebels.

However, they were well rested and well fed.

In contrast, the rebels, who had neither adequate rest nor food,

Thus, Zhou Yafu's army "waited for the enemy to tire"

—using rest and comfort to wait for the enemy to tire.

They ultimately successfully defeated the rebels.

Borrowed Knife Killing 7 Cao Cao

Guan Yu successively killed Yan Liang and Wen Chou, two key generals in Yuan Shao's camp.

Yuan Shao was so enraged that he threatened to kill Liu Bei.

After Liu Bei explained his reasoning, Yuan Shao agreed and spared Liu Bei.

Liu Bei explained, "Cao Cao has always been wary of me, Liu Bei.

Now that he knows I'm with you, he's afraid I might help you.

If we join forces, Cao Cao has no chance of victory.

So Cao Cao specifically instructed Guan Yu to kill Yan Liang and Wen Chou.

This is to use you to kill me. I hope you'll think this over carefully."

Liu Bei exemplified Cao Cao's strategy of using a borrowed knife to kill someone.

Yuan Shao decided not to kill Liu Bei, and Liu Bei survived.

If we join forces, Cao Cao has no chance of victory.

Borrowed Knife Killing 6 Liu Bei

Lu Bu met his end at the White Gate Tower, slain by Cao Cao.

After Cao Cao defeated Lu Bu and captured him, he found himself in a dilemma:

Should he recruit Lu Bu as a general or kill him?

While Cao Cao was hesitating about whether to kill Lu Bu,

Cao Cao sought Liu Bei's advice.

Liu Bei suggested:

Consider Dong Zhuo and Ding Yuan, both of whom had adopted Lu Bu as their adopted sons.

In return, both were killed by Lu Bu! Therefore, Cao Cao decided to execute Lu Bu.

Thus, Liu Bei borrowed Cao Cao's sword to kill Lu Bu.

Borrowed Knife Killing 4 Duke Huan

During the Spring and Autumn Period,

Duke Huan of Zheng planned a surprise attack on the State of Kui.

He first wrote down the names of Kui's heroes,

loyal ministers, debaters, wise men, and courageous men.

He then selected prime farmland in Kui to bribe them, writing down their official titles and nobility.

He then established an office (an altar and a gate) and placed these items there.

Duke Huan of Zheng did this to create the illusion of an alliance with the heroes and loyal ministers of Kui.

The ruler of Kui, believing that all the heroes and loyal ministers had betrayed the state, would lead to civil unrest.

To prevent civil unrest, the ruler of Kui executed all of Kui's loyal ministers.
