In 154 BC, Emperor Jing of Han implemented policies to weaken the local vassal kings.

The Liu clan vassal kings across the country, dissatisfied with their diminished power, rebelled, sparking the Rebellion of the Seven Kingdoms.

After the rebellion broke out, Emperor Jing of Han ordered General Zhou Yafu to lead his troops into battle.

Zhou Yafu knew that the rebels, short of food, would surely seek a decisive battle.

So, he held his ground, refusing to engage the rebels head-on.

Over time, the rebels ran out of food and fodder and became exhausted.

Originally, Zhou Yafu's army was inferior to the rebels.

However, they were well rested and well fed.

In contrast, the rebels, who had neither adequate rest nor food,

Thus, Zhou Yafu's army "waited for the enemy to tire"

—using rest and comfort to wait for the enemy to tire.

They ultimately successfully defeated the rebels.
