😭 Story 28: Lu Bu's Last Moment

Lu Bu met his end at the White Gate Tower, killed by Cao Cao. When Cao Cao defeated and captured Lu Bu, he was undecided about whether to execute him. Lu Bu asked Liu Bei to intercede with Cao Cao on his behalf, hoping to give him a better chance of survival. 

Lu Bu said, "You are an honored guest, while I am a prisoner. Why not say a word to show leniency?" (Lu Bu addressed Liu Bei respectfully as "Sir"). Liu Bei nodded. A while later, when Cao Cao arrived at the White Gate Tower, Lu Bu called out to him, "What you worry about, my lord, is nothing more than me, Lu Bu. 

Today, I have surrendered to you. You are the general, and I, Lu Bu, am your deputy. The task of pacifying the world will not be difficult." (Lu Bu addressed Cao Cao respectfully as "My lord," implying a wise leader). Cao Cao turned to Liu Bei and asked, "What do you think of the situation?" Cao Cao sought Liu Bei's opinion. Liu Bei advised Cao Cao, "Think about Dong Zhuo and Ding Yuan, both of whom adopted Lu Bu as their sons. In the end, both were killed by Lu Bu!" 

Lu Bu looked at Liu Bei/Liu Xuande and said, "It's you, you scoundrel, who is the most untrustworthy!" Cao Cao ordered Lu Bu to be dragged downstairs, a rope wrapped around his neck and tightened, strangling him. Lu Bu turned to Xuande and said, "Big-eared brat! Liu Bei/Liu Xuande, don't you remember when I mediated a military conflict for you? 

At the camp gate, during the 'Shooting the Halberd at the Gate' exercise, I fired an arrow from a long distance, hitting the halberd. That time, because of my superior archery skills and martial arts, I frightened General Ji Ling. General Ji Ling temporarily refrained from fighting you, thus bringing temporary peace to your army?" 

Suddenly, someone shouted, "Lu Bu, you scoundrel! Death is death, what is there to fear!" Everyone looked to see who was speaking, and it was Cao Cao's executioners, escorting Zhang Liao...

After Cao Cao defeated Lu Bu, he pondered whether to kill or utilize Lu Bu. Liu Bei suggested, "Think about Dong Zhuo and Ding Yuan. Lu Bu had previously served both Dong Zhuo and Ding Yuan, ultimately betraying and killing them both." Cao Cao understood this and killed Lu Bu. This was a test of loyalty before recruiting subordinates.
