圍棋起源於中國，是兩人在棋盤上比賽圍地的遊戲。

Weiqi  (Go) was created in China. It is a board game of occupation.

由黑棋先下，白棋再下，一人一手。

Black plays first,White plays second, and they take turns. 

黑棋先下 Black plays first

白棋再下 White plays second

正式比賽用的是19X19路棋盤。9X9路棋盤或13X13路棋盤可作為初學者入門練習使用。

Formal competition use 19X19 board. 9X9 or 13X13 board used by beginner.

                                                                                                                                                                   

那那那，我們要怎麼開始玩呢?

How we going to play it?

是像五子棋一樣排五顆嗎?  不是！

Is it just like backgammon?  NO！ 

首先，棋子是放在縱線及橫線的交叉點。

The stone is placed in the cross of line.

如果下在點與點之間的話，會被笑喔！

If you put the stone in block─ that will be a joke.

棋子放在交叉點，才是正確的喔！

Put in cross is right thing to do. 

好的，我們已經知道圍棋是黑先白後交替落子，下在交叉點，比賽誰圍的地多。

Yes, we alrealy knew Weiqi is  a game of ocupationblack first and take turns.

接下來我們要認識「氣」，及學習如何吃掉對方的棋子。以下圖為例:

Now we are going to learn "Liberties of the Stones ". Learning how to eat stone.

   

我們可以看到，白棋A周邊有四個方向可以前進，以箭頭標示。白棋B有三個，白棋C有兩個。

We can see the white A have four direction to go. White B got there, white C got two. 

這些箭頭表示的交叉點，稱為棋子的「氣」，也就是說白棋的氣就是這些X。

These X are "Liberties of the Stones " (Also named: Chi 氣 )

 當它們的前進方向都被堵住，氣都沒有了，就會被對手吃掉，稱為「氣盡提取」。

Removing stones with no liberties from the board is called capturing─ ''ti zi''.

被提取的棋子要從棋盤上拿走。

That's what it means.

我們看圖，圖一的右邊三顆白棋連在一起有8氣，但左邊可憐的兩顆白棋只剩下1氣

Let's see the picture-three white side by side, so their Chi 氣 is count all together--they got eight.

However, the pity two located in left have ONLY one final Chi 氣.

只要黑棋施以致命一擊， 

If the Black hit final strike.

白棋兩顆就被吃掉了。(從棋盤上拿掉)

Two White been eaten alrealy.

這就是氣與堤吃的基本觀念。

This is the basic concept about "Liberties of the Stones " & ''Capturing stones ''.

現在我們要介紹「禁著點」、「同時氣盡」二個專有名詞。

Now we are going to introduce the '' Forbidden intersection '' & '' both players become liberty-less ''

下圖的A點白棋如果放進去，馬上就沒有氣了，像這種地方稱為「禁著點」。

Looking at pitcture, the white can not place a stone in [A] intersection because that move result in no liberty(Chi 氣) for the stone and that plays is not a capturing move. So that is a '' no-no ''.

依照圍棋的規則白棋是不能下在這裡的。(但是黑棋可以)

According to the rule, white can not place a stone there. (But the Black can.)

按照前面所說「禁著點」的觀念，白棋下在D點後自己變成0氣了，所以這邊不能下?!

Follow by the idea of '' Forbidden intersection '' (禁著點) White will turn into 0 liberty (Chi 氣).

Can we do it? No, we can't.

等等! 白棋如果下在D點，雖然自己沒有氣了，但黑棋BC兩顆也同時變成0氣!

Wait！ Even though White will looks like a suicide deed if it put in [D] - but Black B&C turn into zero Chi as well.

這就是所謂的「同時氣盡」。

It is '' both players become liberty-less ''.

依照圍棋規則，如果發生同時氣盡，最後下在D點的白棋可以把BC兩顆黑棋吃掉喲!

If '' both players become liberty-less '' happen. White place in [D] first, than it can take down the 

白棋如果下在A點，雖然自己下在A點的棋子沒有氣了，
但是同時也使得黑棋的三顆棋子變成0氣。

If White put a lovely stone in [A] even White will looks like suicide again.
Somehow, White end the life of the three Black stone.

根據圍棋的基本規則，下在A點的棋子可以吃掉黑棋的三顆棋子。

So by the rule, White will have the there Black stone as dinner.

相反地，對黑棋來說，A點屬於「禁著點」。是不能落子的地方。

For the Black [A] is '' Forbidden intersection ''. Black can not place a stone there.

White 1 go on [A] and eat the three Black.
